Fiscal Prudence

Roy J M Plumley (“Tories can’t claim they are best economically”, February 6th) and David Evans (“Belief that Tories still best not based on facts”, February 7th) make some good points, but Brian Oxenham is right and they are wrong.

No-one can deny that the core membership of the Labour Party believes that “profit” is a dirty word, but anyone can plausibly argue that only half the Conservative Party agrees with them.

Even if the wrong faction wins the battle for the heart and soul of the Conservative Party, they cannot possibly be worse than a party which openly  claims to be socialist.
