Trump v Greenland

Trump should be taken seriously, not literally

As Paul Whiteley (“Trump tantrum reveals narcissistic streak”, January 22nd) should know by now, President Trump should always be taken seriously, not literally. President Trump is implying that European leaders constantly obsess about how important peace is, but they are hypocrites who care nothing about peace. Their goal is to denigrate an America that won’t fall in line with their socialist, one-world, anti-American demands.

President Trump then made it clear that America is not playing that game anymore. His goal and his job description under the Constitution are identical: Put America first in everything he does. If making peace in a far-off land puts America first, he will do it. And if getting Greenland under American control puts America first, he will do that, too—any way he can.

As I write this letter, it looks as if NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will give America permission to station tens of thousands of troops permanently in Greenland. Anyone who wants to pretend that this does not give America control of Greenland is free to do so, and I shall not waste my time arguing with them.
